“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
It is helpful to use this cleansing prayer after ministering to a person (praying with them, for them, counseling, listening) especially when what the person shared is “heavy” emotionally and/or spiritually.
The idea of the cleansing prayer is simply to surrender the person, burdens and outcome of the ministry to Jesus. As we pray the cleansing prayer, we are placing our trust in Jesus to care for the person, carry their burdens and free us from any emotional and spiritual burdens (including any spiritual warfare) that we were carrying while ministering to the person. We are receiving from Jesus after we have ministered His grace to another person by asking Jesus to cleanse us, free us and restore our souls.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for granting me the privilege of ministering to__________________ (fill in the blanks with the name of person). I now release__________________ to you and the responsibility for his/her healing and freedom to you. I do not have the power to heal or free_______________but commit them to you. Thank you, Lord, for your love and care for_________________________which is far greater than mine could ever be. Thank you that you are his/her healer, savior, deliverer and provider.
Jesus, where I have been connected emotionally and/or spiritually to __________________________in any way that is outside your will, I ask you to forgive me and break any ungodly ties between us. Only allow your love, grace, truth and freedom to remain between us.
Lord, set me free, by Your Spirit from anything emotional or spiritual that transferred to me during this ministry. In your name, Jesus, and with your authority, I demand any evil spirits to leave me and send them to the feet of Jesus for judgment. I cancel and break any assignment/plan that has been raised up against me or my family, in Jesus’ name.
Holy Spirit, fill me and restore me. Jesus, heal my heart of any pain, trauma, grief and warfare that I experienced while ministering to your son/daughter. Strengthen my inner-being with your strength and restore my soul where I have been depleted by this ministry.
Jesus, thank you for what you have done and are doing in _____________’s life. Thank you for the honor of praying for your son/daughter and ministering to them. I love you and praise you. I give all glory to you and to you alone.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
