At the heart of every young man is a question he is seeking to answer. He wants to know if he is good enough, if he is strong enough and if he has what it takes. This is why we see a group of boys challenging each other to see who can jump out of the tree the furthest. It doesn’t make sense, but this is their way of asking the question and proving the answer to be true.
At the heart of every young woman is a question she is seeking to answer. She wants to know if you see her, if she is pretty and if she is lovely. No one taught my daughter that her outfit matters, yet she cares deeply about how her clothes look. Getting up on the coffee table during Christmas to sing a song for the whole family is her way of asking, “Do you delight in me?”
To be fair, this is very general and oversimplified. We all know kids have different personalities and may not seem like they are asking these questions in these ways. Some boys would never jump out of trees and some girls could care less about their clothing.
At the core of who they are, every kid is asking questions about themselves in their own ways and in their own words.
In essence, they are asking, “Am I worthy?”
The reality is that this question never changes when we become adults. We are still seeking validation and approval. We still want to know that someone sees us, knows us and delights in us. The problem that most adults face is that we are taking this question to the wrong things or people. We seek validation from our spouse, our boss or even our best friends.
While those closest to us should empower, encourage and love us, our questions can only be answered by our Heavenly Father.
Have you asked your Heavenly Father the question? Put it in your own words and ask him.
From his word, he says that YOU ARE…
You are a Child of God. (John 1:12)
You are a New Creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
You are a saint. (Ephesians 1:1)
You have been rescued from darkness into his kingdom. (Colossians 1:13)
You have been set free from Condemnation. (Romans 8:1-2)
You are Christ’s friend. (John 15:15)
You are no longer controlled by your sinful nature. (Romans 8:9)
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
You are anointed. (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)
You are God’s workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)
You are victorious over the enemy. (Luke 10:19)
You are holy and blameless in God’s sight. (Ephesians 1:4)
You are a citizen of heaven. (Philippians 3:20)
You are bought with a price and belong to God. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
You are no longer a slave; you are a child of God. (Galatians 4:6-7)
You cannot be touched by the evil one. (1 John 5:18)
You are never alone. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
You are bold. (2 Corinthians 3:12)
You are set apart. (1 Peter 2:9)
You are chosen. (Ephesians 1:4)
You need to take your question to our Heavenly Father and rest in the fact that the God of the universe, delights in YOU. Yes, you!
We’ve created these phone backgrounds to be a reminder that you are… all these things. Rest in this daily and walk with confidence that you are worthy, you are lovely, and you have what it takes.
