Family Movie Devotional: Turbo
Use this family devotional to remind your family that God’s voice should always be the loudest in their lives.
As you begin, make sure everyone has a piece of play-doh. Start by having everyone mold whatever they would like out of their play-doh. After a minute, instruct each person to pass their play-doh creation to the right. Again, everyone can mold their own creation. Do this several times, until everyone ends up with their lump of play-doh again.
Ask: Is this what you intended your play-doh would look like when we started out? How does it look different?
Say: You were the original creator. You had a plan in mind for your play-doh when we started out. You knew what you wanted it took look like and you started to mold and shape it with that plan in mind. But, what happened? Other people took a stab at creating and shaping and molding the play-doh and it didn’t turn out quite as planned.
In the movie, Turbo knew that he was created to be a speedy snail. That was his purpose! But everyone else was against it. Even his brother, Chet, tried to talk him out of it. Turbo had lots of voices trying to influence who he became and the choices he made. Chet and the other snails tried to mold him into the snail they expected him to be, instead of helping him become who he was created to be.
Lots of people have influence in our lives—parents, friends, brothers and sisters, teachers, neighbors, the list goes on and on. All of these people can have a voice in our life. It’s good to be surrounded by people who love us, God planned for us to live in community! But, the voice we listen to the most should always be God’s voice.
Think back to the play-doh, you were the original creator of your play-doh creation. You knew what you intended that lump of play-doh to be molded into! But then it didn’t turn out as planned. God is our creator! He made us and He knows exactly what He has planned for our lives—He knows what He created us to do!
Psalm 139:13-14 says “For It was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”
God created us, He knows what is best for us! Even if other people are telling us we should act a certain way, or say certain words, or dress in certain clothes, God knows best! He’s the Creator, He knows the plan.
Finish by praying: God, thank You for creating us and for giving us a purpose. Please let Your voice always be the loudest one in our lives.
