ABIDE Prayer
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
God, Our Commander in Battle
As Sons and Daughters of the King, we march into battle behind the Great Commander. He penetrates darkness with His Light. Overcomes unceasing chaos with His peace. We are victorious by His power. Victorious by His strength. Victorious by His presence. Victorious through prayer.
Let’s begin ABIDE by taking a posture of prayer before the Lord. Quieting our thoughts, calming our breath, opening our hearts to connect to our Father in Heaven.
Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving
“My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep. The LORD protects you; the LORD is a shelter right by your side.” (Psalm 121:3-5)
Prayer: Father, we come to you __________________ (tell God how you come to him today). Thank you for meeting us here, as we are, in this intimate space of communion. You are faithful. Father, help us to praise you before our breakthroughs, before we know the outcome of our circumstances. God, I thank you that today, in the midst of my battle, I know you are ____________________ (name a truth you know about God’s character). Thank you that as your son/daughter, we are not hidden from you; there is no darkness that can ever overshadow us beyond your sight’s ability to see us. We praise you for who you are and remain forever thankful that you go before us in battle.
Prayers for Our Hearts in Battle
“Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:5-6)
Prayer: Father, let all that we are wait quietly before you. May we be still and know that you are our God. That our victory and honor come from you alone. Remind us now of past rescue stories in our lives. (Pause for silent reflection). Right now, our battle of ______________________ (name your battle) in this world tells us, _______________________ (What do your battles tell you? Unbeatable? Too heavy?). But God, your Word says we can take heart, for You have overcome the world. Help me to calm my heart and mind. Father, I am _________________ (who does God say you are?) and you fight for me.
Prayers for Strength and Endurance
“God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
Prayer: Father, in your strength we find refuge and endurance. The battles that surround us do not rattle us in our weariness because you are a God who endures us forever. Father, thank you for filling us with strength to endure in our _________________ (where is God giving you the strength to endure right now in your life?). God, you are our stronghold in the midst of overwhelming battles. We thank you that your compassion and mercy are over us, your grace is sufficient for us and your power works best in our weakness. Father, fill me with your _________________ (what do you need Him to fill you with?).
Closing Prayer
God, your strength withstands, your hope saves, your power overcomes, and your peace perseveres. May we be consumed by all that you are, freeing us from the lie that we fight our battles alone. We thank you that you do not leave us alone. You place our battles underneath our feet so we can walk with our eyes fixated on you, our Great Commander.
