ABIDE Prayer: God’s Wisdom

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.”  (Matthew 7:24-25)

As we walk through life, we will experience many blessings and joyful times in our lives. We will also experience a variety of storms in our lives. God is faithful and He walks with us in every season of our lives and every moment of our lives. He is always with us!

Today’s ABIDE focuses on the powerful gift of God’s wisdom. When we build our life –make God the center of lives, walk with Him daily, trust God and His Spirit to lead us, believe His words over our emotions or lies from the enemy and are obedient to His leading – we are building our lives on the rock!

I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold (Psalm 18:1-2).

Prayers of Praise & Thanksgiving

To the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now and forever. Amen. (Jude 1:25).

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6).

Prayers:   Lift up prayers of praise and thanksgiving to God. Praise and thank God for who He is and the way He reveals Himself and His wisdom to you.

Prayers for Wisdom in Our Lives

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God – who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly – and it will be given to him (James 1:5).

What do you specifically need God’s wisdom for in your life?  Take a moment and allow the Spirit to bring to mind places in your life (your heart, relationships, work, decisions, etc.) that you need His wisdom.

Prayer: God, I need your wisdom in ____________________ (name the specific needs you have for God’s wisdom). Thank you for your promise to generously give your wisdom to me when I ask you.

Prayer for Wisdom for Others

Scripture tells us to pray for God to give others (and ourselves) His wisdom and revelation so that we may know Him better.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better (Ephesians 1:17).

As the Spirit continues to lead us, let’s pray for those who He puts on our heart and ask God to give him/her His wisdom.

Prayer: God, we ask for you to give ________________ the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so he/she may know you better.

Closing Prayer:  God, thank you for being our “rock.” Thank you for helping us build our lives on you so that we can walk securely through life. We trust you because you are good, faithful and the only Wise King.  We look to you, bow to you and love you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
