ABIDE Prayer

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

Overcoming Fear

There is power in the name Jesus Christ, and fear cannot stand against it. As God’s sons and daughters, we can experience freedom from fear in our lives but we must recognize the spiritual battle and our need for the power of Jesus to set us free.

Let’s begin ABIDE by lifting up prayers of praise and thanksgiving to Jesus for how our lives are forever changed because of Him.

Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgement.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we praise you for who you are to us. You are ______________________ (describe who He is to you) and I thank you for seeing each of us personally. We thank you for when you saw us _____________________ (a time where He saw and provided for you), and now we know you are with us in our moments of fear. You are with us always until the end of time. You are the God who sees, whose Spirit dwells within us. Thank you that we can call upon your power to release us from the fears that weigh us down and keep us from living the full life that you have for each of us as your sons and daughters.

Prayers for Our Hearts

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” (John 14:27)

Prayer: Father, we confess this world can distract us from remembering your Truth. Surrounded by the pain and struggle of this world, we easily fall prey to fear, fear of failure, fear of death, sickness, loss or rejection. Fear keeps us from experiencing the peace, joy, and contentment you offer. We confess our fear of __________________ (current fear that steals your peace) and ask for our hearts to be cleansed of those lies. We desire to be filled with your peace which surpasses all human understanding. Father God, you say we are _____________________ (who does God say you are) and you call us out from the darkness of fear and into your light of freedom and peace.

Prayers for Others

“Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength.” (Ephesians 6:10)

Prayer: Father, it is our honor to fight for those we love through prayer. May ________________ (names of friends, family members, co-workers, neighbors living in fear), be strengthened by you, Lord. May you reveal the ways fear is distracting them from all the good plans you have for them. We pray your Spirit will speak to those we love, reminding them that this life is a gift from you to be lived freely, not as slaves to fear. God, will you show them a picture of a life lived freely in you, reaching their heart in a way only you can.

Closing Prayer

God, may there be victory today, right now, by the power of your son’s name, Jesus Christ. God you are Overcomer, Defender and Victor over evil. With you, we stand tall before fear, not bending to its lies. Through you, glorious freedom awaits us. Because of you, peace of mind, heart, and soul is ours. We have nothing to fear. May we stand boldly in your truth and daily put on the whole armor of God. It is because of Jesus Christ we can come to you through prayer. In His name we pray, Amen
