ABIDE Prayer

ABIDE are guided prayers that can be used in small groups or as a personal devotional prayer.
The purpose of ABIDE is to help us draw near to God in prayer as we gather in small groups or as we spend time alone with God.

Peace in Surrendering

There may be times in our lives when we feel we’re ready for that next exciting step or opportunity, causing us to justify a hasty decision. However, Scripture makes clear the potential for difficulty being birthed from hasty movement.

Let’s begin ABIDE by lifting up prayers of praise and thanksgiving to Jesus for how our lives are forever changed because of Him.

Prayers of Thanksgiving

In all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:6)

Prayer: Father, we are forever thankful for your ________________ (name an attribute of God). Today, we specifically thank you for your vision and for your guidance which removes the pressure from our lives to have every next step fully planned. Your Word tells us that you know our hearts and our thoughts and you’ve seen all our days.  Because of that, we can be filled with Your peace which surpasses all understanding in seasons of decision and change. Father, we are thankful we can have peace in surrendering our plans to you.

Prayers for our Hearts

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

Prayer: Father, help us to not be wise in our own eyes by forcing doors open or moving to greener grass because in our own understanding we believe it’s where we are supposed to be or deserve to be. Father, help us to surrender _____________________ (name what needs to be surrendered to the Lord). Shine your light and reveal all the unseen effects that are attached to what we think we know. Lord, help us to trust in You with all of heart by releasing to you our understanding and seeking instead your infinite wisdom. Protect our heart Father from ____________________ (name how you may need your heart protected).

Prayer in the Waiting

Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which paths to take. (Proverbs 3:6)

Prayer:  Lord, while we wait upon your guidance, may we seek to be faithful in what we know you have called us to. May we faithfully love and serve our neighbor by remaining steadfast in our mission of discipleship – bringing your Good News. You are our source of _____________________ (name something the Lord provides you), and you are good.

Closing

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. (Proverbs 3:13)

Holy Spirit, pausing before you, waiting for your guidance, and following your lead will never bring us disappointment. Instead, joy will be ours as your sons and daughters.

Closing Prayer: Father God, you have removed tensions and relieved pressures through the words of your Truth. As we pause and surrender in an area of our lives, we continue to run the race of discipleship with abundant contentment and joy. We trust fully in your plans for us. You are a great King, a Faithful Father and a Compassionate Friend. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
