ABIDE Prayer: God’s Wondrous Works

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

God is constantly working in us and all around us. When we focus our thoughts on God and ask Him to help us to be aware of His presence and how He is working, we will see countless ways God is working – in wondrous ways.

Prayer to Focus our Hearts on God

Let’s begin ABIDE by asking God to help us focus our heart and mind on Him.

Prayer: Take a moment and bring your heart to God by asking Him the following:

Ask God to remove any distractions. Ask God to help you surrender any burdens you are carrying to Him. And then ask God to help you see how He is working and has been working in your life and in the lives of those around you.

Prayers of Declaration

Scripture tells us to declare (tell, proclaim, recount) God’s wondrous (marvelous, extraordinary) works. As God’s sons and daughters, we have the honor of declaring what our God, our Father, has done in our lives and all around us.

Let the whole earth sing to the LORD. Proclaim his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among the people.” (1 Chronicles 16:23-24)

Prayer: God, I/we declare your wondrous work in ___________________________ (fill in the blank with ways God worked in a wonderful way in your life and in the lives of others in 2020).

Prayers to Remain Focused on God

To experience God’s peace, hope and joy when we walk through pain, trials and the daily spiritual and emotional battles of life, it is essential that we focus our thoughts on God and His wondrous works.

Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy – dwell on these things.  (Philippians 4:8)

Pray:   Let’s make Philippians 4:8 our prayer by asking God to help us focus our thoughts on Him today and to help us keep our thoughts focused on Him.

Closing Prayer: Let’s close our ABIDE time by simply lifting up prayers of thanksgiving to God. What are you grateful for in your life? What has God done or what is God currently doing in your life that you are grateful for? Spend a few minutes telling God what you are thankful for in your life.

Prayer:  God, thank you for___________________________.
