ABIDE Prayer: Jesus, Our Anchor

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

Scripture tells us to “come” to Jesus and to “approach” His throne through prayer. What an amazing invitation from the King of Kings and Lord of Lords – our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let’s begin ABIDE by focusing our thoughts and heart on our King.

Prayers of Praise

And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:16)

Prayer: Jesus, you are our King and we worship you!  We praise you for ____________________________ (fill in the blank with prayers of praise to Jesus).

Prayer: Jesus is our AnchorAn anchor supports or keeps one steadfast in the time of trial or of doubt. It is an emblem of hope (Accordance Bible).  Scripture tells us in Hebrews 6:19-20 that Jesus is the anchor of our soul.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Jesus has entered there on our behalf as a forerunner, because he has become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20)

Jesus is our hope and because of Jesus we are secure and safe because our lives are in His hands.

Question: What trials are you going through in your life today that is causing you to feel “insecure” or “shaken?”

Let’s make a decision today to trust Jesus with whatever we are going through in our lives and receive the hope, peace and confidence of our anchor, King Jesus.

Prayer:  Jesus, I/we trust you with ___________________________ (fill in the blank with whatever you are experiencing in your life that is making you feel insecure or shaken). Thank you that you are my anchor and I am secure and safe because my life is in your hands.

Prayers for Others

There are people in our lives – our family, church and community, who are experiencing all sorts of trials and storms. As God’s sons and daughters, we have the honor of praying for others and fighting spiritual warfare battles for others through our prayers.

Ask the Spirit to bring to mind the names of those who are going through trials and storms today and let’s pray for them. Let’s ask Jesus to protect their hearts and minds from the lies of the enemy and remind them that Jesus is the anchor of their souls.

Prayer:  Jesus, I/we lift up ______________________________ to you. Protect him/her from the lies of the enemy and remind ___________________ that you are their anchor. Give him/her your hope and help them trust in you.

Closing Prayer:  Jesus, thank you the gift of prayer. Thank you that you call us and invite us to pray to you. Thank you for the honor and call to pray for one another. We love you and we thank you for being the anchor of our souls! In Jesus Name, Amen.
