God’s Goodness

Let’s begin ABIDE by inviting the Spirit to fill us (Ephesians 5:18) and lead us as we pray. 

Opening Prayer:  Holy Spirit, thank you for your presence. We need you. Fill us, lead us, speak to us and empower us as we pray. In Jesus’ Name. 

Prayers of Thanksgiving 

Our Heavenly Father is good. He is always good. Read the following Scriptures slowly and allow the truth and power of Scripture to speak to your heart. 

The LORD is good to everyone; his compassion rests on all he has made. (Psalm 145:9) 

Taste and see that the LORD is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in Him! (Psalm 34:8) 

The LORD is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in Him. (Nahum 1:7) 

Think back on the past week. Where have you seen God’s goodness?  Let’s thank our Heavenly Father for being good and for the specific ways we have seen His goodness. 

Prayer:  Father, thank you that you are good. Thank you for _____________________ (fill in the blank with specific ways God has revealed His goodness to you in the past week). 

Prayers for Our Hearts  

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19) 

Our Heavenly Father is not only good, He sent us the “good news,” Jesus Christ! As you think of the past week and perhaps even today, what do you need from Jesus? Do you need comfort? Perhaps joy, peace or relief from burdens you are carrying? Do you need healing or freedom in some area of your life?  

Let’s bring our needs to our Father today and choose to trust in His goodness. 

Prayer:  Father, I need your_______________________ (fill in the blank with what you need from your Heavenly Father today) and I choose to trust in your goodness.  

Prayers for Other’s Hearts 

As we continue to be led by the Spirit, ask Him to bring to mind people who are lost and need to receive the good news, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s pray for them.  

Father, we pray for _______________________ (fill in the blank with the first name of the person who comes to your mind who is lost). Open the eyes of her/his heart so that she/he may know you. Rescue her/him from darkness and set her/him free to know you and receive the good news, your Gospel. 

Closing Prayer

Father, thank you for rescuing us and giving us new life through Jesus. You are so very good to us. We worship you and love you. Help us to be sensitive to the Spirit’s leading to pray for the lost, testify of your grace in our lives and live more like Jesus. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
