ABIDE Prayer: Jesus, Our Resurrected King
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
“For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Last Sunday, we celebrated Easter, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. As God’s sons and daughters, we can give thanks for our Resurrected Savior daily and celebrate how our lives are completely changed because of what Jesus did for us on the Cross and through His Resurrection.
Let’s begin ABIDE by lifting up prayers of praise and thanksgiving to Jesus about we/I how our lives are forever changed because of Him.
Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving
“Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:10)
Prayer: Lord, we/I praise you because ______________________________ (fill in the blank with prayers of praise to Jesus) and thank you for ______________________ (fill in the blank with what you are thankful for that Jesus did in your life through his death and resurrection).
Prayers for Our Hearts
“On the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark. She saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.” (John 20:1)
We are shown throughout Scripture the power of the LORD. He parted waters, healed the sick, and even called the dead to rise. And as John 20:1 tells us, the stone to Jesus’ grave was moved, not so He could get out but so that we so could get in. So that we could see and believe. He is risen!
Where in your life do you need the power of Jesus to touch you? Perhaps emotionally, spiritually, mentally, physically or in a relationship with someone. Let’s ask Jesus to touch our lives with His power.
Prayer: Jesus, I/we need your power in ________________________ (fill in the blank with areas of your heart and life that the Spirit is bringing to your mind).
Prayers for Others
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
We are surrounded daily by people who do not know Jesus. Lives are unchanged by the power of the Gospel because people are lost, bound by lies of the enemy. Jesus tells us, His sons and daughters, to “go” to those who do not know Him.
Because last Sunday was Easter Sunday, many people who do not know Jesus attended church services and may have heard the Gospel for the first time. Let’s pray specifically for those who do not know Jesus but heard the Gospel last Sunday.
Prayer: Lord, we pray for _________________________ (fill in the blank with the names of people that you know who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus AND pray for all who heard the Gospel last weekend) to be drawn to you. Soften his/her heart and open his/her eyes so that they may see and believe in you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, you removed the stone so that we could go inside and believe. Please remove the stones from our eyes, from our hearts and our memories so that we can clearly see you and know you more deeply. You are our Resurrected Savior and King! Help us keep our eyes fixed on you and your power to change our hearts, lives and beyond. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
