ABIDE Prayer
God’s Unfailing Love
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days (Psalm 90:14).
The word “satisfy” in Psalm 90:14 means to be satiated; the filling and even overfilling of appetites and desires (Accordance).
If we are honest, focusing on God is a challenge and it is battle to be satisfied with our Father’s unfailing love.
We get distracted by the countless things that are going on around us and our hearts get pulled away from seeking our Father and receiving His unfailing love. Today’s ABIDE will help us re-focus our hearts on God and His unfailing love.
Opening Prayer
Let’s begin ABIDE by taking a moment to quiet our hearts and minds before God. Simply, take a deep breath and exhale slowly. You may want to pray a “breath” prayer as you inhale and exhale, such as, “God, I need your love.”
(If you are leading a small group through ABIDE, pray the next prayer over those you are leading.)
Prayer: Lord, I give my heart and my life to you. I need you. Remove the distractions and help me focus on you. Spirit, fill me and lead this time of prayer. I consecrate this time of prayer to you. In Jesus’ Name.
Prayers of Thanksgiving
A simple but very effective way to re-focus our thoughts on God is by thanking Him. What are you grateful for today? How has God worked in your life, family and church? What has God healed you from? What has God set you free from?
Spend a few moments thanking God. Allow the Spirit to remind you of specific ways God has revealed His unfailing love to you.
Prayer: God, thank you for_________________________________________. In Jesus Name.
Prayers of Confession
Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name (Psalm 86:11).
What pulls you away from God? What distractions, lies from the enemy and temporary satisfactions compete for your heart? What is robbing you of being satisfied by God’s unfailing love?
Prayer: Confess silently to God that you need Him to help you have an undivided heart. Ask God to forgive you, heal you and free you of whatever is pulling you away from Him. Ask God to give you a passion to seek Him and receive from Him.
Prayer for our Hearts
God created our hearts with a deep need to experience His unfailing love. His desire is for our hearts to be satisfied – satiated and overflowing with His unfailing love. And as God satisfies our hearts with His unfailing love, the atmosphere of our heart’s changes to songs of joy and gladness.
Let’s ask God to satisfy our hearts today with His unfailing love. Ask God to fill and overflow your heart with His love. Prayer the prayer below or a prayer with your own words.
Prayer: God, I confess my need for your unfailing love. Satisfy my heart with your unfailing love. Help me to receive your unfailing love and change the atmosphere of my heart to songs of joy and gladness. In Jesus Name.
Prayer for Other’s Hearts
As the Spirit brings people to mind, pray for them to experience God’s unfailing love for them.
Prayer: Father, help_________________________to experience your unfailing love for him/her. Reveal yourself to him/her in such a way that they encounter your unfailing love in a deep and personal way. In Jesus Name.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank you that you desire to satisfy us with your unfailing love. Give us discernment to quickly recognize when we are being pulled away from you and your unfailing love. We want to be sons and daughters who receive deeply from you because only you can satisfy our hearts. We want your love to flow in us, through us and overflow to others – so help us receive deeply from you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
