Victory
Victory is the opposite of defeat. As God’s sons and daughters, we have been given victory through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
As we experience trials, losses, spiritual warfare and the challenges of everyday life, we can choose to believe the enemy’s lies that we are defeated or choose to believe the truth – we are “more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). Let’s choose truth!
As we begin ABIDE, take a moment to quiet our hearts and minds – to be still before God.
You may want to pray a “breath prayer” as you inhale and exhale, such as, “Jesus, you are my victory”.
Opening Prayer
Prayer: Father, we love you and we need you. Holy Spirit, fill us and lead us as we gather to pray and study Scripture. We dedicate this time to you and what you have for us to receive from you as your sons and daughters. Remove any distractions and help us to focus our hearts on you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Prayers of Thanksgiving
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:11-13 ESV)
Consider what the LORD has done for us – His sons and daughters. Let’s take a moment to thank our Father for all He has given us, done for us and promised us for our futures. Thank God for the simple things of life, His provisions – and the victory He gave us through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Prayer: Father, we/I thank you for ________________________________. In Jesus Name.
Prayer for Our Heart
“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Corinthians 15:57)
