ABIDE Prayer: Faith, Not Fear
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
Prayers of Praise
Let’s praise the Lord by reading aloud the following verses about the Great I AM!
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8)
God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” (Exodus 3:14)
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.” (John 8:58)
Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Prayers for Freedom from Fear
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
Prayers for Faith
Let’s ask God to increase our faith in Him – the Great I AM. Scripture tells us that perfect love drives out fear! “There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment.” (1 John 4:18) God’s love is perfect. It is complete and powerful. God’s love drives out fear. However, we must have faith in God and His promises or we won’t experience freedom from fear.
The great news is we can ask God to increase our faith and help us focus our thoughts on the truth of Scripture instead of thoughts driven by fear. As we do this, our faith increases and we experience God’s peace.
- “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
- “For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
- “For everyone of God’s promises is “Yes” in him. Therefore, through him we also say, “Amen” to the glory of god. Now it is God who strengthens us together with you in Christ, and who has anointed us. He has also put his seal on us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a down payment.” (2 Corinthians 1:20-21)
Lord, increase our faith in you and your promises. Help us put our faith in you and your faithfulness to care for ___________________________ (fill in the blank with anything in your life, family, community, nation where we need God to increase our faith and depend on His faithfulness).
Prayers of Thanksgiving
Let’s thank God for His faithfulness and power to provide and care for us at all times. Thank God that the Great I AM is with us and for us – His beloved sons and daughters!
Lord, thank you for taking care of ____________________________ and we put our faith in you because you are faithful!
Closing Prayer:
God, thank you for the incredible gift of prayer! You hear our prayers and use our prayers to change our lives, families, community and nation. Speak to us through your Scripture as we gather to worship you through the study of your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
