ABIDE Prayer: God Is Mighty
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle (Psalm 24:8).
Our God is mighty! There is nothing that compares to the power and strength of our God. And our God is also our Father who gives us – His sons and daughters – His power and strength as we seek Him and humble ourselves before Him.
Prayers of Praise
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you (1 Peter 5:6-7).
God’s hand is mighty. Let’s acknowledge that God’s hand is mighty and it is over our lives and our families.
Prayer: God, we praise you and thank you that your hand is mighty over_______________________(fill in the blank with areas of your life and family where you need God’s mighty hand).
Prayers of Surrender
Let’s take a couple of moments to be quiet before God and ask Him to speak to our hearts through these questions.
What am I attempting to do in my own strength (without asking God to help you)?
What cares do I need to cast to God today?
Prayer: God, I cast my care (worry, burden, problem, situation) of______________________to you. I choose to trust that your mighty hand is big enough to handle these cares. Help me surrender all my cares to you and trust in your mighty hand over my life.
Prayers for One Another
God, thank you that you care about__________________________(fill in the blank with the name of someone next to you or simply say the person sitting next to me) and everything in his/her life. Help him/her to know that you are mighty and that you are working in his/her life.
Closing Prayer
God, we praise you, our mighty God! Thank for being our Father who loves us and takes care of us. We don’t have to try and do things in our own strength or on our own. You walk with us, empower us by your Spirit and take care of all our needs. Help us believe that your mighty hand is holding us and that you never let go! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
