ABIDE Prayer: God is Our Rock, Salvation and Stronghold
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
Jesus pursued you and continues to pursue you. He wants your whole heart – your sin, struggles, brokenness and pain, as well as your praise, attention, love and devotion.
Prayers of Praise
I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will never be shaken (Psalm 62:1-2).
God is a solid foundation to stand upon when we put our trust in Him. He promises that we will not be shaken when we choose Him to be our rock, salvation and stronghold.
Let’s praise God for being our rock, salvation and stronghold!
Lord, we praise you for _____________ (fill in the blank with words of praise to God).
Prayers of Confession
It’s easy for our distractions to become something we turn to when we feel shaken by circumstances in life or when we are tired or anxious. Psalm 63:1-2 describes how desperately we need God.
God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water. So, I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory (Psalm 63:1-2).
Let’s confess that our need for God is far greater than anything that distracts us from Him and choose to seek Him, His strength and His glory.
God, we confess that we desperately need you. We need your _____________ (fill in the blank with what you desperately need God for in your life.)
Prayers of Intercession
Scripture tells us, “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before him. God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:8), and “Because you are my helper; I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings. I follow close to you; your right hand holds on to me” (Psalm 63:7-8).
Let’s pray for those around us (in our community group or class) who are walking through a difficult time or grieving the loss of a loved one.
Lord, we pray for _____________. Help them to make you their refuge. Remind them that you are holding them and they can trust you at all times. Give them your strength to rejoice in you as their rock, salvation and stronghold.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank you for your presence in our lives. Thank you for creating us with a desperate need for you that you’ve completely met through our relationship with Jesus Christ. You are a loving and faithful Father, and we are blessed to be your sons and daughters. Holy Spirit, lead us and direct us today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
