ABIDE Prayer: God Is Our Strength
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart celebrates, and I give thanks to him with my song” (Psalms 28:7).
Prayers of Celebration
Lord, you are our strength and we celebrate you! Thank you for the strength you give us to ___________________(fill in the blank with something in your life, family, community, church) where God has shown His strength.
Prayers for Strength
Scripture tells us “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by his vast strength” (Ephesians 6:10). We need a continual flow of God’s strength to live the lives we were created to live. John 15:5 tells us “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.” We can do nothing for God’s Kingdom – including transforming our lives and homes apart from Jesus. We desperately need Jesus, His strength and His power in our lives.
Lord, we need your strength and power to ____________________(fill in the blank with anything the Spirit puts on your heart).
Prayers for Others
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength” (Ephesians 1:18-19).
Lord we pray Ephesians 1:18-19 over those who are walking through difficult trials, suffering and are weak from the storm or battle. We lift up __________________ (fill the blank with whoever the Spirit brings to mind such as a loved one, someone in your small group – it can be you) and ask you to give them your hope, strength and power. Give them strength through your Spirit.
Closing Prayer
Lord, you are our strength and our song! We invite you to work in our hearts. Open our hearts and minds to your Scripture and reveal yourself to us. Thank you for the incredible gift of your Word and community. We bless your name! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
