ABIDE Prayer: God Our Peace
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you. (Isaiah 26:3)
Prayers of Praise:
Let’s begin by praising God for the promise of perfect peace when we depend on and trust in Him.
Prayer: God, thank you for offering your supernatural gift of peace when ______________ (fill in the blank with a time in your life when you experienced His peace).
Prayers of Confession:
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything mental, emotional or physical you may have turned to hoping it would provide you with the peace only a mind and heart set on Jesus can experience.
Prayer: God, I confess that You are my only source of true and lasting peace. I ask you to forgive me for trying to find peace in __________________________ (fill in the blank with anything or anyone you’ve turned to looking for peace instead of finding it in Him).
Prayers of Petition:
And let the peace of Christ, to which you were also called in one body, rule your hearts. And be thankful. (Colossians 3:15)
Prayer: Jesus, we need your peace to rule and reign in _________________________ (fill in the blank with specific areas where we need the peace of Christ to take over).
Closing Prayer: Father, thank You for offering me the peace of Christ that provides a sense of inner calm when I walk daily with You. I need a peace that transcends my circumstances and even the concerns that flood my mind on a daily basis. I know that perfect and constant peace can only be experienced if my thoughts are focused on you in both inclination and character. I choose to take refuge in you with hope and confident expectation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
