ABIDE Prayer: God, We Need You!
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
As God’s children, we need our Father’s help regardless of circumstances. We are created to walk closely with God and receive His love, grace, healing, freedom, provision and empowerment to live the lives we were created to live!
Psalm 34:1-3 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will boast in the Lord; the humble will hear and be glad. Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.”
Prayers of Praise
In the midst of this proclamation, David says that he will boast in the Lord. Many times, we think of boasting as something prideful, but in this case, this boasting is proper because the object of that boasting is proper! It is boasting in a way that a child would boast about his father.
With that boasting in mind, let’s spend time today boasting in the Lord. Complete this sentence with others in an attitude of praise:
Lord, I boast in your __________________________. Fill in the blank with one of God’s attributes that draws you to Him and makes you proud to be called His child.
Prayers for God’s Help
Verse 15 says, “ The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.”
God has always moved in the direction of hearts who cry out to Him. We’ll have a chance to ask FOR specific things in a moment. For now, let’s concentrate on expressing our need for God’s help.
Complete this sentence with others in an attitude of confessing our need for God. Fill in the blank with areas of your own life where you feel great need. (For example, our families, our nation, our church).
Lord, I need your help with___________________________.”
Prayers of Petition
We serve a God who not only hears our prayers, but answers us! Verse 17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles.”
We have some real needs among us today. Let’s lift those to the Lord. Let’s pray, “Father, we cry out for help with regard to ___________________” or “Father, we ask you to rescue us from __________________________.”
