ABIDE Prayer: God’s Songs
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
As God’s sons and daughters, we are created in His image. One of the ways we bear God’s image is through singing! Scripture tell us in Psalm 42:8, “The LORD will send his faithful love by day; his song will be with me in the night – a prayer to the God of my life.” God sends His faithful love to us and His song to us, His treasured sons and daughters.
Prayers of Praise and Thanksgiving
Let’s begin ABIDE with prayers of praise and thanksgiving for God’s faithful love and songs He sends to us.
Prayer: God, we praise and thank you for your faithful love and song you sent me _______________________ (fill in the blank with a time in your life or perhaps presently when God sent His faithful love and song to you to bless you, strengthen you, and give you His hope).
Prayers – Songs for God’s Strength
Scripture tells us, “To you, my strength, I sing praises, because God is my stronghold – my faithful God.” (Psalm 59:17)
A “stronghold” is a place of refuge. We can sing of God’s strength when we make Him our stronghold.
Question: Where in your life or family do you need God to be your stronghold today?
Prayer: God, I sing praises to you for the strength you give me as I find refuge in you for _______________________ (fill in the blank with whatever you, your family or perhaps our nation is walking through and need God to be your strength and stronghold).
Prayers – Songs for Others
“The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
Many people are walking through painful trials and storms all around us. As God’s sons and daughters, we can make a difference in other’s lives as we pray for them. Let’s ask God to help others know that God is fighting for them and is mighty to save, He loves them and He sings over them!
Prayer: God, we lift up to you _______________________________ (fill in the blank with those who the Spirit puts on your heart – the lost, the brokenhearted, those without jobs, etc.) and ask that you quiet their hearts with your love, help them know that you are singing over them and that you are the one who saves.
Closing Prayer: God, thank you for the songs you give us to sing to you and the songs you sing over us as your sons and daughters. Help us sing songs to you as we walk through every season of our lives. Help us recognize your songs over us. We love you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
