ABIDE Prayer: Praying for Others
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
Today’s focus is on praying for others. We can draw near to one another and to God through prayer.
Prayers of Thanksgiving:
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you.” (Colossians 1:3)
Let’s begin by thanking God for the people in our lives who encourage us in our walk with God (this could be leaders, family members, friends – anyone God is using in your life to grow you closer to Him) and asking God to bless them!
Prayer: God, thank you for _____________________ (fill in the blank with the name of someone the Spirit puts on your heart) and how they encourage me in my walk with you. I ask you to bless ____________________ with a greater revelation of your love for them. Give them more of your peace, your joy and your strength.
Prayers for Leaders:
Note: Leaders can be those in our family, at work, church, community, etc.
“Being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.” (Colossians 1:11-12)
Let’s pray Colossians 1:11-12 over those the Spirit puts on our hearts.
Prayer: Lord, we pray for _________________________ (fill in the blank with the name of someone you are praying for) to be strengthened with all power, according to your glorious might, so that he/she may have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving to you, who have enabled _________________to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. (Colossians 1:11-12)
Prayers to Receive and Give:
Let’s pray for God to help us receive and give His compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience to those around us.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (Colossians 3:12)
Prayer: God, thank you that we belong to you! We are yours and your Spirit lives in us. Help us to receive from you and to give to others your compassion, your kindness, your humility, your gentleness and your patience.
God, I especially need your ______________________ (fill in the blanks with what you need the most from God for your own heart and what you need His help to give to others) and ask you to help me give your ______________to others.
Ask the Spirit to speak to your heart about one person/family you can pray for this week. Send them a text or note and let them know you are praying for them!
Closing Prayer: God, thank you for the people in my life. Thank you for those who I am in community with as we gather to study Scripture. Help us to be devoted to you and faithful to pray for one another. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
