ABIDE Prayer: Reset Our Hope in God
The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.
As we conclude our series on “Reset” this week, we have an opportunity to surrender our “predicament” (trial, burden, fear, battle) to God and choose to put our hope fully in Him.
In Scripture, hope is not simply “wishful thinking” but means a strong and confident expectation in God and His promises. When we put our hope in God, we are choosing to trust God and His promises regardless of our circumstances, pain and spiritual battles.
Prayers of Praise
Let’s begin ABIDE by choosing to put our hope in God and praise Him for who He is.
Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God (Psalm 42:11).
Prayer: God, we praise you for_____________________________ (fill in the blanks with prayers of praise for who God is and for being our Savior).
Prayers of Thanksgiving
Slowly read 1 Peter 1:3–4 and consider what God our Father has given us through Jesus Christ. Then lift up prayers of thanksgiving to Jesus for who he is and what he has done for you/us and given you/us.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you (1 Peter 1: 3 – 4).
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for _________________________ (fill in the blank with prayers of thanksgiving to Jesus for who He is and what He has done for you and has given you).
Prayers for Hope
Let’s pray Romans 15:13 over our lives and ask God to help us be a voice of hope to those around us and in the world.
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
Prayer: God, you are our hope. We put our trust in you and your promises. Fill us with your joy and peace so that we overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit with us.
God, help us share the hope of Christ to those around us.
*Ask the Spirit to speak to your hearts. Is there anyone specific who needs the hope of Christ today? Lift up that person in prayer and ask the God of hope to fill them with His hope, joy and peace through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Closing Prayer: God, we praise you and thank you for being our hope. We confess that you are all-powerful, all-knowing, in complete control and faithful. Thank you for the rest we receive when we put our hope in you. Help us to continue to put our hope in you each day – each hour of the day – and receive your hope and joy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
